The story is about a group of young winemakers who in the 1980s and 1990s dramatically changed the world of Barolo wine.

The true story takes place in the beautiful scenic hilly area called Langhe, north-western Italy. The film focuses on 30 years of technical innovations and changes in wine making.

Also, the movie is about friendship and spirit of the group behind these wine producers and their success.

The film won several awards including “Wine Travel Food Prize 2014” for the best film on wine and food topics. The movie is not about technical steps of wine making.

02) Sideways

2004 Comedy-Drama, starring Paul Giamatti and Thomas Haden Church.

The film received high praise by movie critics and it was nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress.

The story is about two friends in their forties, a depressed teacher and unsuccessful writer (Miles), and out-of-work actor (Jack).

Together they take a week-long road trip to Santa Barbara Wine County, to celebrate Jack's upcoming wedding. Their plan was to week relaxing, playing golf and enjoying good food and wine.

However, Jack is has a hidden plan of one last sexual fling before settling into domestic married life. The plan for a relaxed easy week, turns into full of unexpected mischiefs, surprises, and heavy wine drinking.

It is a wonderful movie to watch, with a wine drinking body and enjoy many laughs and life lessons!

03) French Kiss

1995 Romantic Comedy, starring Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline.

The story is about a fussy teacher named Kate and a Frenchman named Luc. They meet on a flight to Paris.

Kate is on a mission to get back her doctor finance, who fell in love for a French Beauty while in Paris.

Luc is smuggling a small vine plant and a stolen diamond necklace into France, hoping to use both to achieve his dream of starting a vineyard in France.

Their funny and sarcastic interactions start on the plane, and gets louder and more sarcastic as Kate gulps down few drinks!

Luc hides the stolen diamond necklace in Kat’s bag, knowing the customs will search him at the Paris airport. Things don’t go as planned for Kate and Luc.

Then, they try to work together, to achieve what they both came to Paris for. During their funny and comical efforts, they get to know each other better, and soon a strong attraction builds between them.

A delightful movie with many funny lines and charming small plots, beautiful scenes of French country side, and a happy ending!

The movie was filmed on location in Paris, Provence and Côte d'Azur regions.

04) A Walk in the Clouds

1995 Romantic Drama, starring Keanu Reeves, Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, Giancarlo Giannini.

The story is about a young soldier returning home from WWII, who is planning to find a job and settle down with the woman he rashly married just before enlisting.

After returning, he realizes she is not what he expected to be. He decides to go to Sacramento in search of work. Along the way he meets a beautiful young woman who is heading home from college to her family vineyard to help with the grape harvest.

When he learns she is pregnant and was abandoned by her boyfriend, he offers to stand in as her husband so she can face her old fashioned domineering father. During his stay at the vineyard, they fall in love and face the angry rejection of her father together.

It is a beautiful film, well acted, full of romance, passion, and bittersweet yearning. Also, the movie portrays kindness and decency, in times of despair and hardship.

It had great reviews and it won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score. The film is based on the 1942 Italian film (Four Steps in the Clouds).

05) A Good Year

2006 Romantic Comedy/Drama, starring Russell Crowe and Marion Cotillard.

The story is about a successful and arrogant stock broker in London. He gets a notice of inheriting his uncle’s vineyard in Province, France.

The vineyard was where he spent his childhood holidays and summers. He decides to go to France to do the required legal paper-work and make a “quick sale” of the property.

Shortly after arriving to France, things never go as he planned. Certain unexpected events lead him to fall in love for a local girl running a small café.

Also, he encounters inheritance issues with “estranged” family member. His ambitious career plans as a stock broker and his plans for quick sell of vineyard, changes dramatically.

He finally settles in the wine region of Province with his local French love!

06) You Will Be My Son

2011 French Drama, starring Niels Arestrup and Lorànt Deutsch.

The story is about "father and son" relationship and their passion for wine making. The father a strict and demanding winemaker disappointed at the prospect of his son, taking over his vineyard.

He seeks a more talented successor, and finds him in the son of his steward. The father lavishes attention and praise on him, while disapproving his son’s sincere efforts.

Eventually, he invites the son of the steward, instead of his own son, to attend his inauguration for the Legion d'honneur (Highest French Honors given to a person).

The movie was filmed in lush French country side, with rolling hills and beautiful scenery. The acting and the story, received some mixed and some great reviews.

It is consider highly emotional with bitter relationship between father and son, and their passion for vineyards and making great wines.

07) Sour Grapes

2016 Crime Documentary, about The Greatest Wine Impostor.

The true story is about Rudy Kurniawan. He was a rich wine collector who befriended the rich and powerful and sold millions of dollars of fraudulent wine using top auction houses.

With very clever scheme and many connections in the wine market, he was able to sell millions of dollars of fake wines. He bought special papers to emulate vintage aging and he bought corks and bottles from the region and the time period.

Then he crafted blends of wine that would pass for the real thing. In 2006 using top rated auction company, he broke the records by selling $35 million worth of fake wines.

But, in 2008, during wine authentication of a rare wine, the counterfeit was discovered. Then, the FBI started their investigation. They soon discovered in his house how he was able to forge the labels. He was convicted and sent to prison. He is the first person in the United States to be convicted of such a crime.

The documentary is a great reflection that a lot of the big players in the wine market, including top auction houses, don’t really know what they taste or why it is worth the money.

Many of them spend millions of dollars on a bottle of wine, for the sake of status!

08) A Tale of Autumn

1998 French Romantic Comedy, starring Béatrice Romand, Marie Rivière, Alexia Portal.

The story is about forty-something widow and winemaker. She loves her vineyard and enjoys her life as a wine produces. However, she feels lonely, but tries to disguise it by been very busy and working long hours.

Her two close friends both secretly try to find a partner for her. They put an ad in the newspaper that attracts more than one possibility. They plot to arrange meetings between her and the men they've chosen for her.

During these get together, there are several snags and confusions, which leads to funny and witty exchanges. It is a beautiful film with smart witty lines that brings joy and laughter to the viewer.

The beauty and the scenery of the land are breathtaking. It received great reviews and it was selected as (Best Foreign Language Film by the National Society of Film Critics) in 1999.

Three stories about three characters and their unique approach about food and wine. It takes place in “Langhe” area, one of the most beautiful places in Italy, and UNESCO World Heritage site.

The three characters, in three different stories, display their family life, their struggles against urbanization, overbuilding, and economic developments, which is changing the Langhe’s unique beauty and long tradition for quality food and wines.

It is about people who have seen a future they did not like and have refused it. They are trying hard to keep their direction with overwhelming odds facing them.

It is a bitter-sweet and touching documentary. It received great reviews many awards. The award-winning documentary is about food, wine and the beautiful land of Langhe in northern Italy.

10) The Secret of Santa Victoria

1969 Comedy Drama, starring Anthony Quinn, Anna Magnani, Virna Lisi.

The story is about a small Italian town, during the summer of 1943, when the German army occupied the Italy. The only good source of income for Santa Vittoria town is its wine.

Then, the people in the small town get the news, that the German forces will be arriving soon, to confiscate the wine.

The town’s people, under the leadership of their drunk and clown mayor (Anthony Quinn), they start to organize a plan to hide a million bottles of wine, before the German army arrives.

When they arrive, the Germans take some harsh steps to find the hidden wines. But, they don’t succeed. Finally, the Germans troops get their orders and leave to another mission.

After they leave, the town’s people, led by the mayor celebrate their victory by drinking wine and dancing in the streets.

The movie was shot on location in Anticoli Corrado, near Rome.
